Skin Lesion, Lump and Bump
Removal
Lump and Bump removal is one of the most common surgeries in the UK. A lot of the time, they can be removed in an outpatient setting with no need for surgical intervention. People of all age groups can be affected and although they are usually harmless, it is always best to get them looked at by a doctor.

What are skin lumps and bumps?
Skin lumps are any areas of abnormally raised skin. The lumps may be hard and rigid, or soft and moveable. Swelling from injury is one common form of skin lump.
Most skin lumps are benign, meaning they're not cancerous. Skin lumps are generally not dangerous, and usually don't interfere with your everyday life. Talk to Sana if you're worried about any abnormal growths on your skin.
What are lesions?
A lesion is an area of abnormal tissue that may or may not be cancerous. Skin lesions are found on or just below the skin. Examples of skin lesions are epidermoid cysts, lipomata (benign tumour of fatty tissue), skin tags and moles.
Benign (non cancerous) lesions can simply be left alone. However if your skin lesion bothers you in any way your consultant may recommend removal.
Your initial consultation costs £200.00 and will allow the consultant to diagnose and offer recommended options for treatment.
Due to the different sizes and location of lumps, bumps and lesions, it is impossible to provide a guide price until a consultation has been completed. The cost will vary depending on whether you require minor treatment within an outpatient setting or surgical treatment in one of our theatres. Histology will also be required in some cases which can also affect the price.
What are the different types of lumps and bumps we treat at Sana?
Lipomas
Lipomas are a collection of fat cells which come together to form a fatty lump under the skin. These lumps of fat are benign and non-cancerous. In the majority of cases, they are not painful or harmful.
Adenocarcinomas
Adenocarcinoma is a type of cancer that starts in glands that line the insides of organs, which is why it can affect different body areas. It forms in glandular epithelial cells, which secrete mucus, digestive juices or other fluids.
Ganglion
A ganglion is a noncancerous lump that develops along the tendons or joints of the hands or wrists. This causes tingling or numbness in the hand.
Soft Tissue Sarcoma
Soft tissue sarcoma refers to cancer that begins in the muscle, fat cells, fibrous tissue, blood vessels, or other supporting tissue of the body. Soft tissue sarcomas can appear in the form of lumps and bumps, which is why having regular checkups at a certified clinic is essential.
What are the different types of lesions we treat at Sana?
SCC is a type of skin cancer that typically develops in sun-exposed areas such as the face, ears, and neck. It may appear as a scaly, red patch, open sore, or wart-like growth. While it can grow quickly and potentially spread, early treatment is highly effective. At Sana, we provide expert surgical removal and follow-up care tailored to your needs.
BCC is the most common type of skin cancer and often appears as a pearly bump, flat lesion, or scab that doesn’t heal. It usually grows slowly and rarely spreads, but it can cause damage if left untreated. Our team at Sana offers precise, minimally invasive removal techniques to treat BCC safely and effectively.
Melanoma is a more serious form of skin cancer that can develop in existing moles or as new pigmented spots. Early detection is crucial, as melanoma can spread to other parts of the body. At Sana, we offer fast access to diagnosis, biopsy, and expert-led surgical care, with a strong focus on timely intervention and ongoing monitoring.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes - it’s always best to have any new or changing lump checked by a specialist. Most lumps are harmless, but a professional assessment ensures nothing is missed and helps put your mind at ease. At Sana, we offer quick access to expert consultations and diagnostics.
Lumps and bumps can be caused by a wide range of conditions, including cysts, lipomas (fatty growths), skin infections, or skin cancers like basal or squamous cell carcinoma. They may appear just under the skin or deeper in the tissue. While many are benign, some require medical attention and removal.
You should seek medical advice if a lump:
-
Appears suddenly or grows quickly
-
Feels firm, irregular, or painful
-
Changes in shape or colour
-
Doesn’t go away after a few weeks
Early assessment is key to ruling out anything serious and starting the right treatment if needed.-
