Skin Lesion, Lump and Bump
Removal

Lump and Bump removal is one of the most common surgeries in the UK. A lot of the time, they can be removed in an outpatient setting with no need for surgical intervention. People of all age groups can be affected and although they are usually harmless, it is always best to get them looked at by a doctor.

What are skin lumps and bumps?

Skin lumps are any areas of abnormally raised skin. The lumps may be hard and rigid, or soft and moveable. Swelling from injury is one common form of skin lump.

Most skin lumps are benign, meaning they're not cancerous. Skin lumps are generally not dangerous, and usually don't interfere with your everyday life. Talk to Sana if you're worried about any abnormal growths on your skin.

What are lesions?

A lesion is an area of abnormal tissue that may or may not be cancerous. Skin lesions are found on or just below the skin. Examples of skin lesions are epidermoid cysts, lipomata (benign tumour of fatty tissue), skin tags and moles.

Your initial consultation costs £200.00 and will allow the consultant to diagnose and offer recommended options for treatment.

Due to the different sizes and location of lumps, bumps and lesions, it is impossible to provide a guide price until a consultation has been completed. The cost will vary depending on whether you require minor treatment within an outpatient setting or surgical treatment in one of our theatres. Histology will also be required in some cases which can also affect the price.

What are the different types of lumps and bumps we treat at Sana?

Lipomas

Lipomas are a collection of fat cells which come together to form a fatty lump under the skin. These lumps of fat are benign and non-cancerous. In the majority of cases, they are not painful or harmful.

Benign Lesions

Benign (non cancerous) lesions can simply be left alone. However if your skin lesion bothers you in any way your consultant may recommend removal especially if it impacts your quality of life..

Ganglion

A ganglion is a noncancerous lump that develops along the tendons or joints of the hands or wrists. This causes tingling or numbness in the hand.

  • Yes - it’s always best to have any new or changing lump checked by a specialist. Most lumps are harmless, but a professional assessment ensures nothing is missed and helps put your mind at ease. At Sana, we offer quick access to expert consultations and diagnostics.

  • Lumps and bumps can be caused by a wide range of conditions, including cysts, lipomas (fatty growths), skin infections, or skin cancers like basal or squamous cell carcinoma. They may appear just under the skin or deeper in the tissue. While many are benign, some require medical attention and removal.

  • You should seek medical advice if a lump:

    • Feels firm, irregular, or painful

    • Changes in shape or colour

    • Doesn’t go away after a few weeks

Early assessment is key to ruling out anything serious and starting the right treatment if needed.

What to expect

Consultation

You’ll meet with one of our experienced consultants who will assess the lump, bump or lesion and advise on the most appropriate course of treatment. They’ll also discuss pricing and whether the tissue needs to be sent for histology (lab testing) following removal.

During the treatment

Removal is typically carried out in-clinic under local anaesthetic. You’ll be awake but won’t feel any pain. Most procedures are quick and minimally invasive, with treatment usually taking less than an hour.

After
Treatment

You’ll receive full aftercare advice, including how to keep the area clean and what signs to look out for during healing. In most cases, patients return to normal activities the same day. If histology is required, results will be shared once available.
