Sidath Wijetilleka

(BSc, MBBS, GRCOphth)

Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in Vitreous, Retinal and Complex Cataract Surgery

A University College London graduate and recipient of the Sir Thomas Lewis prize in 2010, Mr Wijetilleka gained a wealth of experience working across London before pursuing a career in ophthalmology. Following seven years of ophthalmic specialist training in South Wales, Mr Wijetilleka gained an Advanced Medical Training Fellowship in vitreoretinal surgery at Europe’s largest teaching hospital, St James’, in Leeds.

He is one of the few pioneering practitioners with training in the latest small gauge, minimally-invasive surgical techniques in the management of complex vitreoretinal conditions. These include implant lens exchange, secondary lenses and cases which have had difficult first procedures.

Mr Wijetilleka is currently working as a Consultant Vitreoretinal Surgeon at Singleton Hospital, and as an Honorary Clinical Tutor at Swansea University. He is also an Examiner for the Royal College of Ophthalmologists.

Mr Wijetilleka has been widely published in international journals and academic literature in his specialist field of vitreoretinal surgery, is a reviewer for several ophthalmic journals, and regularly lectures to optometrists and General Practitioners.
